Portonovo is located in the O Salnés region, which is located between the Ría de Arousa and the Pontevedra estuary.
AROUSA ESTURY
The Ría de Arousa is the largest of the estuaries in Galicia. For centuries, its breadth and wealth encouraged invasions, so to contain them in the 11th century, the Western Towers were built in Catoira, today the scene of a fun “Viking Landing”.
And also, throughout the estuary, beaches and more beaches. The islands of Sálvora, Cortegada, Arousa or Toxa, with their spas, pine forests and elegant hotels. Or the animation of Rianxo, Boiro or Ribeira; the lordship of Cambados, capital of Albariño, with the impressive Pazo de Fefiñáns square. And not to miss anything, the spectacular A Curota viewpoint in A Pobra do Caramiñal.
PONTEVEDRA ESTURY
Pontevedra is the capital of the Rías Baixas. A stately city brimming with life and terraces, with the most important historic center in Galicia, after Santiago. And attractions such as the Basilica of Santa María, the Church of San Bartolomé or the Museum of Pontevedra, one of the best provincial museums in Spain. On the north bank of the estuary, festive atmosphere in Sanxenxo and Portonovo.
It is one of the most touristic estuaries in Galicia. It has everything: the climate, the beaches, the sea, the landscape, the artistic heritage and also the environment.
Among the monuments, the church of La Peregrina in the capital of Pontevedra and the medieval Monastery of Poio stand out, with special mention for the granaries of Combarro, which seem to come out of the sea. On the south shore, a relaxed and maritime atmosphere in Marín, Bueu, Aldán or O Hío, with its spectacular baroque cross.
